United Nations Global Compact mourns the loss of Mr. Fasihul Karim Siddiqi, Executive Director of Global Compact Network Pakistan

Statement by Sanda Ojiambo, CEO & Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 1 June 2023 — It is with great sadness that we learned of the recent death of Mr. Fasihul Karim Siddiqi, Executive Director of Global Compact Network Pakistan.

All colleagues in the UN Global Compact family mourn his loss. We send our thoughts, prayers and best wishes for comfort and strength to his family, his loved ones, colleagues in Pakistan and all who worked closely with him.

In a career spanning over five decades, Mr. Siddiqi held leadership positions in various organizations, and played a key role in establishing Global Compact Network Pakistan, helping it grow into a strong team of passionate individuals. He was a strong supporter of collective action and successfully led the Anti-corruption Collective Action Project in the maritime sector. He was a beloved team leader, making everyone around him feel respected and comfortable.

He was one of the most active and energetic members of our UN Global Compact family. A leader in sustainable development, strategic management, human resource management, and business leadership, he frequently conducted workshops to share his deep knowledge in Pakistan and many other countries.

Teaching students was his passion and he was always willing to share his wisdom and experiences with others. He had just finished a class he was teaching at the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi – something that he had done for many years as a Professor of Employment Laws and Industrial Relations – when he passed suddenly. He often served as a visiting faculty at several business schools across Pakistan.

Mr. Siddiqi also worked as a leader at the Employer's Federation of Pakistan for over four decades, including service in roles as Vice President and Secretary-General.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Siddiqi worked for Hinopak Motors Ltd and Philips Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. 

He was a valued member of the One Global Compact family and will be deeply missed.
