Global Compact Mourns the Passing of Kamal Singh
UNITED NATIONS, New York, 27 October 2020 – It is with deep sadness that we mourn the sudden passing of Mr. Kamal Singh, Executive Director, Global Compact Network India (GCNI).
In a career spanning more than three decades, Kamal held various leadership positions in organizations across India that focused on raising the standards for human resource management, higher education, human rights and gender equality. Kamal joined the UN Global Compact family in 2017 and under his leadership and vision, GCNI grew leaps and bounds. He played a key role in forging a strong relationship between GCNI and the UN agencies in India, finally leading to multiple agreements of collaboration and the relocation of the GCNI office to the UNESCO premises in New Delhi. He was a strong supporter of the Principles of Responsible Management (PRME), a sister initiative of the Global Compact, and believed that the future business leaders will play an instrumental role in creating a sustainable, strong Indian private sector!
Not only was Kamal well-respected by the public and the private sector in India, he was also a true friend to many of his Local Network colleagues around the world. He was always ready with a smile and a word of encouragement. Everyone who has visited the GCNI office knew him for his warmth and hospitality.
Kamal was one of the most active and energetic members of the Global Compact family, always ready and willing to share his experiences and learning from others. He was a beloved team leader, making everyone around him feel respected and comfortable. He was true to his roots and truly embodied the values and ideals that the UN Global Compact stands for.
His passing is an irreparable loss to the Global Compact family. It is hard to come across people like him who have an inherent capacity for kindness, friendship and positivity. In this hour of grief, we ask you to keep his family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts and continue to show them your love and support. Kamal will be deeply missed by all of us. Let us remain united in building a kinder, just, and peaceful world that Kamal so passionately believed in.
