UN Global Compact Launches Local Network in Lebanon

(Beirut, 3 September 2015) – In the presence of over 250 high-level representatives from business, Government, business associations, academia, civil society and other stakeholders, Global Compact Network Lebanon was launched on 3 September at the American University of Beirut (AUB).
At the launch, keynote speeches were delivered by H.E. Adnan Kassar, Chairman of Fransabank SAL, and Dr. Fadlo Khuri, President of AUB, expressing support for the network and the promotion of the Global Compact in Lebanon.
The secretariat of the Local Network will be hosted at the American University of Beirut and is supported by a multi-stakeholder steering committee. The launch event included a presentation delivered by Dr. Dima Jamali, Representative of the Network and Professor of Management at AUB, on the corporate sustainability landscape in Lebanon. A presentation on the UN Global Compact and the role of the Local Network in Lebanon was also delivered by the network’s contact point Ms. Farah Matar.
The launch culminated with a high-level panel on how companies and organizations are aligning their operations with the Global Compact Ten Principles and the role corporate sustainability will play in tackling the country’s most pressing issues.
