The Sustainable Development Goals and Uniting Business Campaign are featured in 7 of 28 games during Copa América.

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 15 July 2021 — The UN Global Compact and its Global Compact Local Networks finalise a week’s long regional campaign during Copa América. The campaign was brought as an initiative of the Paraguayan Local Network, in collaboration with the UN Global Compact and Latin American Local Networks. A regional campaign was carried out seeking to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the crucial role that the business sector plays in building a better world.

Through regional approach, 10 of GCLNs have worked in coordination in order to have a greater impact in the campaign through social media. While private sector efforts has made progress to implement the SDGs in South America, this campaign sought to unite the forces of football and the UN Global Compact to promote awareness about the SDGs in such an important football event.

Commenting on the campaign, Executive Director of the Paraguayan Local Network, Cristina Cano, said: “Conmebol's support and commitment has been crucial at this particular moment, since we only have nine years left to achieve the 2030 Agenda and collaborative work is essential to achieve it. Sport has a key role as a transversal platform to address the challenges that we face in our societies, and is emerging as a valuable ally to build a better world”.
