Between the urgent calls to action emerging from COP27 and the leading climate reports warning us of “code red,” it is clear that cutting carbon emissions and adapting to climate impacts are critical for human well-being and the future of our planet. Now is the time to take stock of your company’s climate ambition.
The United Nations Global Compact echoes the UN Secretary-General’s sentiment that we must end the world’s addiction to fossil fuels and act on his repeated warnings that “we are in a life-or-death struggle for our own safety today and our survival tomorrow.”
This moment calls for decisive and ambitious action, and the private sector has a critical role to play. In a corporate setting riddled with greenwashing, companies must set accountable net-zero pledges to make real progress.
The good news is that credible corporate action toward net-zero is possible: over 1,900 companies worldwide have validated science-based targets (SBTs), and over 2,000 more have committed to setting them in the near future.
If your company is yet to join these corporate climate leaders, the UN Global Compact offers a series of free e-learning courses accessible to all participating companies and beyond.
#1: Learn how to set a science-based target and hear from other companies why it makes business sense. By taking our 30-minute e-learning module on Setting SBTs and its companion module (20 minutes) on the new Net-Zero Standard, you will understand the steps involved in this critical process and how to future-proof your company along the way.
#2: Want to further understand the foundational concepts for Greenhouse Gas accounting? Complete our self-paced learning plan (3 hours) on how to account for and manage your Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. (This offering is available to participants of the UN Global Compact only. Not yet a participating company? Learn how to join here.)
#3: Learn how to unlock a climate-smart ocean to meet the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C temperature goal with our foundational course (30 minutes) on how to implement the Ocean Principles.
Each of these learning experiences offers a certificate of completion from the UN Global Compact, so you can share your progress towards ambitious climate action with your networks.
