It is with profound sadness that we mourn the sudden passing of Emilio Guerra Díaz, Director of Global Compact Network Mexico.
With almost three decades of experience in corporate sustainability and philanthropy, Emilio joined Global Compact Network Mexico in July 2017. Under his leadership, the Network grew substantially, expanding the group of Mexican companies making their critical contribution towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Emilio also played a key role in laying out a framework for enhanced collaboration between multiple stakeholders to advance sustainable development in Mexico. This work culminated in the signing of a historic collaboration agreement between the Government of Mexico, Global Compact Network Mexico, the International Chamber of Commerce and other key partners in Mexico City in May 2019.
Emilio was a beloved and supportive leader, known for an infectious enthusiasm towards his work and a way of making everyone around him feel so comfortable. We also remember Emilio for being inseparable with his camera and for the joy he received giving people photos he had taken of them as small gifts.
I would like to share a sentiment from Martha Herrera, President of Global Compact Network Mexico:
“Emilio will be missed by the entire Global Compact Network Mexico family, as well as by the networks in Latin America. His passion and his willingness to work together, his devotion to social causes, his always attentive disposition and his smile that always encouraged us to smile too, will make us remember him as a great human being and volunteer leader in our country.”
We ask you to join us in keeping Emilio’s family and friends in your thoughts. Emilio will be deeply missed by the entire UN Global Compact community
