BEIRUT, 14 October 2019 — Global Compact Network Lebanon convened regional and global leaders from business, civil society, Government and Global Compact Local Networks in the Middle East for a dialogue on catalyzing collective action in support of the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Making Global Goals Local Business Middle East was attended by more than 800 stakeholders from different sectors.
The Making Global Goals Local Business — Middle East event was hosted in the Grand Serail — the headquarters of the Prime Minister of Lebanon — under the patronage and in the presence of the President of the Council of Ministers, distinguished Government leaders and ambassadors. Keynote speeches were given by Lise Kingo, CEO and Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact; Dr. Dima Jamali, President of Global Compact Network Lebanon and Member of the Parliament of Lebanon; Philippe Lazzarini, UN Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon and Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator; and H.E. Fadi Jreissati, Minister of Environment of Lebanon, among other esteemed guests.

Attended by more than 800 stakeholders, the speakers emphasized the importance of achieving the Global Goals through serious work and collaboration between the private and public sectors, academia and non-governmental organizations.
During the event, stakeholders introduced various initiatives to advance sustainable development, including a zero-plastic campaign, an initiative on gender equality, and a campaign to end poverty run by the SDG Council of Global Compact Network Lebanon. The event also honored the Milestone Award Winners and saw the publishing of the book Zooming on SDG Trends in Lebanon by Global Compact Network Lebanon.
