Local Networks in Middle East and North Africa Hold First Regional Meeting

(Cairo, 20 April 2010) – The first Regional Meeting of Global Compact Local Networks in the Middle East and North Africa focused on the status of network development, as well as achievements and challenges. The event was facilitated by Soren Petersen, Head of Global Compact Local Networks and Walid Nagi, the Egyptian Local Network Representative.
Hosted by the Mansour Group, attendees included Local Network participants from Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel and Syria. Representatives from UNDP Egypt and from the Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center (ECRC) and the Regional Coordinator in Latin America were also in attendance.
Several publications were reviewed during the meeting, including the Reporting Guidance on Anti-Corruption and a new study on the alignment of the Global Compact and ISO 26000. Attendees engaged in consultations on two publications in development: the Global Compact Toolkit on Network Management and the Guidance Note on Sustainability of Global Compact Networks. In addition, participants discussed the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights.
