Leaders from Latin America Convene to Discuss Role of Businesses in Achieving the SDGs

(Mexico DF, 28 April 2017) – The United Nations Global Compact, together with the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), brought together leaders from business, Governments, civil society and the UN in Mexico City to discuss ¨The Role of Business in Implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda ¨ on the sidelines of the Latin American Forum for Sustainable Development organized by ECLAC.
Alicia Bárcena, the Executive Secretary of ECLAC , opened the event followed by remarks from the Assistant Administrator and UNDP Regional Director for Latin America , Jessica Faieta and the UN Global Compact Head for American Local Networks. Participants, including the Minister of Social Development of Chile, the UN Resident Coordinator of Argentina, the President of the UN Working Group of Business and Human Rights and the Director of the Digital Governing Unit of Mexican Ministry of Public Administration, discussed the opportunities for public private multistakeholder collaboration when implementing the SDG Agenda.
At the closing, ECLAC announced a strategic collaboration with UN Global Compact and its Local Networks with the aim to leverage the full potential of private sector engagement in the multistakeholder implementation processes of the SDG Agenda in the countries of the region.
