Global Compact Re-launches Local Network in Jordan

(Amman, 18 December 2014) – In the presence of over 80 representatives from business, Government, business associations, academia, civil society and other stakeholders, Global Compact Network Jordan was re-launched today in Amman.
At the event, Mustafa Nasereddin, Representative of Global Compact Network Jordan and Executive Director at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization, and Walid Nagi, Head of Local Networks at the UN Global Compact, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the year 2015.
The opening session featured speeches from Paul Van den Ijssel, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Jordan, and Issa Murad, Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, expressing support for the Global Compact on a national level. The keynote speech was delivered by H.E. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, former Global Compact Board Member, who emphasized the important role the Global Compact will play to provide a platform for the private sector and other stakeholders to shape and advance responsible business conduct in Jordan.
The governance structure of Global Compact Network Jordan includes a Board comprising senior executives and representatives from Aramex, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization, Nuqul Group, Cader, To Excel Consulting Association, Jordan Career Education Foundation and Tamkeen. The Secretariat will be hosted in the Amman Chamber of Commerce.
