(Montevideo, 29 April 2016) - On 28 and 29 April in Montevideo, Global Compact Network Uruguay hosted a presentation on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations and the 2030 Agenda at a venue provided by ANCAP. The event also highlighted the UN Global Compact’s worldwide campaign Making Global Goals Local Business as well as the Local SDG Pioneers programme.

The event was attended by over 40 participants with representatives from the business sector, UN, non-governmental organizations, academia and trade unions.

The presentation was opened by Mrs. Marta Lara, CEO of ANCAP, hosting entity of the Uruguay local network, together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Director Mrs. Paula Veronelli, Local Network Representative Mr. Jacobo Varela and Regional Manager for the Local Networks of the Americas Mr. Javier Cortés.

On the second day of the event, the Local Network Steering Committee and other members of the Global Compact Network Uruguay analyzed local opportunities for engagement around the SDGs during a strategic planning workshop. This resulted in the formation of a strategic SDG Action Plan: a prioritization of initiatives to support Global Compact signatories as they engage with the SDGs at the local level.
