Global Compact Network Poland Organizes a CEO Roundtable on Human Rights and Ethics

Warsaw, Poland, 30 August 2018 —  Global Compact Network Poland organized a CEO Roundtable on human rights entitled ‘CEOs for Ethics,’ which took the form of a closed-door dialogue of CEOs and international guests.

Free exchange of ideas and experiences created a platform that allowed for all stakeholders to advance the standards of ethics programmes in Poland. The participants discussed ways to implement and communicate a company’s ethics approach to not only employees but also partners and suppliers. They also discussed linkages between the Global Goals and ethics, the importance of fostering a dialogue between private sector and Government and the benefits of being aware of and following ethics standards.

“Ethics and business conduct are not just about the right thing to do or the legal thing to do — for us it is a really the smart thing to do,” said Alain Simonnet, General Director of 3M in Poland and Ukraine.

“We do believe that the values, ethics and highest standards are the strongest corner stone of any business, especially in developing markets,” added Ireneusz Martyniuk, CEO of the pharmaceutical company Polpharma.

Besides the over 30 CEOs from companies participating in Global Compact Network Poland, the meeting was participated Katarzyna Jakimowicz, General Director of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, Witold Naturski, Deputy Director of the European Commission Representation Office in Poland, Carlos E. Piñerúa, the World Bank Country Manager for Poland and the Baltic States, H.E. Ambassador of Denmark in Poland Ole Egberg Mikkelsen and Tatiana Sakharuk, Executive Director of Global Compact Network Ukraine.

“Is ethics important for business? Definitely yes!” said Joanna Erdman, Vice President of ING Bank Śląski.

“We cannot just keep doing business as we have been doing it so far,” said H.E. Ambassador of Denmark in Poland Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, “We need to do something special.”
