On the sidelines of UNGA, Netherlands Local Network launches SDG Flag campaign in partnership with companies, NGOs, embassies, and universities.

Amsterdam, 2 October 2020 — Global Compact Local Network Netherlands launched the first ever SDG Flag on SDG Action Day, 25 September, to enthusiastic local and online response.

Under the banner of “Together fFor the SDGs,” LN Netherlands persuaded government embassies and Dutch companies, educational centers, and civil society organizations, universities and municipalities to show their commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals by flying  the SDGs Flag on their buildings and showcase the SDG flag on the social media platforms.

“The Netherlands has a good track-record on themes such as ‘innovation’ and ‘combating inequality,’” said Marco Swan, program manager, Global Compact Network Netherlands. “But room for improvement exists for the environmental and climate related SDGs. We need to step up a gear to reach the goals by 2030!”

The SDG Flag Campaign is an initiative of collaborating partners SDG Nederland, VNG, Global Compact Network Netherlands, and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  United Nations Global Compact Local Networks advance the Ten Principles at the country level. They help companies understand what responsible business means within different national, cultural and language contexts and facilitate outreach, learning, policy dialogue, collective action and partnerships. Through our networks, companies can make local connections – with other businesses and stakeholders from NGOs, government and academia – and receive guidance to put their sustainability commitments into action. While Local Networks are independent, self-governed and self-managed entities, they work closely with the UN Global Compact in New York and act as a point of contact for UN Global Compact signatories in a country.
