(Quito, 20 October 2015) – Building on the success of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) call for renewed multisector collaboration at the local and international level. Global Compact Network Ecuador brought together over 100 organizations to discuss their contribution to global development challenges and reinforce the role of the UN Global Compact as a scalable platform for engagement and impact.

Attendees reflected on Ecuador’s performance against the MDGs, the evolution from MDGs to SDGs, the UN Global Compact’s value proposition as a platform to channel business commitment to sustainable development, and the new accountability expectations for the private sector based on the Post 2015 Business Engagement Architecture. Speakers included Maria Belen Proaño Director, National Development Plan Assessment; Fernando Pachano of UNDP Ecuador; Javier Cortes Manager, Local Networks Latin America; Eduardo Lopez Robayo, CEO & President of Sertecpet and Andrea Pradilla, Global Reporting Initiative, Director Hispanic America.

Attendees also participated in a strategic workshop, lead by the UN Global Compact Office, identifying opportunities for engagement in each of the blocks of the Business Engagement Architecture within an Ecuadorian context. The input provided by the group will help guide the strategic direction of the local network from 2016-2018.

As part of the closing, each UN Global Compact participant was presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of their contribution to sustainable development and commitment to corporate citizenship.
