(Buenos Aires, 26 April 2016) – On 26 April, the Chamber of Economists of Buenos Aires hosted a special event, the “First Public Private Policy Dialogue for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Aligning Business Strategies with the SDGs.”
Organized by the Global Compact Network Argentina together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the event was opened by the President of the Local Network and CEO of Sancor Seguros, the Ambassador on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Argentina, the President of the Chamber of Economists, the Executive Secretary of the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policies, and the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in the country.
The event was attended by more than 350 people, including representatives from the public sector, the UN, civil society and Government.
The Regional Manager for the Local Networks of the Americas introduced the UN Global Compact Making Global Goals Local Business campaign as well as the Local SDG Pioneers programme, emphasizing the role of Local Networks in advancing SDG Action Plans and the global sustainable development agenda locally. The SDG Compass was also introduced by GRI as a key tool to align business goals with the SDGs.
The Global Compact Network Argentina then detailed the work undertaken over the past two years to strategically connect business actions with the SDGs in Argentina. The last panel was a multistakeholder roundtable discussion with business and Government representatives from the Treasury Department and Social Policies Ministry, as well as academia. Following the event, the Global Compact Network Argentina organized the “II Strategic Direction Process” to update its roadmap matrix and advance contributions to the SDGs in Argentina. Facilitated by the UN Global Compact, 33 organizations from the Steering Committee participated in this workshop, demonstrating a global-local strategy to advance the 2030 Agenda.
