Global Compact Launches Local Network in Uruguay

Montevideo, Uruguay
(Montevideo, 10 August 2010) – Today, over 100 representatives from business, civil society, government and the United Nations gathered in Montevideo for the official launch of the Global Compact Local Network Uruguay. The launch was described as a milestone in the growing corporate social responsibility movement occurring in Uruguay.

The event followed the establishment of a governance structure of the new network at a multistakeholder conference held on 4 August. At this conference, Global Compact participants elected the Network Board, consisting of private companies, state-owned businesses, business associations, civil society organizations and a UN representative. The Global Compact Local Network Uruguay has a total of 31 members.
