Global Compact Launches Local Network in Costa Rica

(San José, 1 December 2010) – Today, over 200 representatives from business, civil society, Government and the United Nations participated in the official launch of the Global Compact Local Network Costa Rica.

The Local Network was realized through the support of UNDP Costa Rica, the National Advisory Council on Social Responsibility (CCNRS) and the Global Compact Regional Support Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean. Intel, the US-based technology company, played a central role in launching the network, involving its local operations in the network's development and encouraging suppliers and partners to join. The Global Compact encourages multinationals to engage in Local Networks where they have operations as a key way to advance implementation of the ten principles globally.

The Local Network currently has 14 business participants, several more companies are in the process of joining.
