(Curitiba, 25 April 2015) ─ How are Global Compact cities addressing the world’s global challenges? What issues are they tackling in their efforts to build more sustainable, equitable and just societies? Global Compact cities are working in partnership with civil society, the private sector and academia as integral actors to the success of locally-driven, globally-focused initiatives.

The Brazilian State Government of Paraná hosted a launch of the Global Compact Cities Programme’s Cities for the Future publication in Curitiba, Brazil on 24 April 2015. The launch was part of a “Liveable Cities” event and included the Paraná State Government Minister for Planning, Secretary Silvio Barros II, the State Government representative on the Global Compact Cities Programme Regional Secretariat and Minister Steve Herbert, the Victoria State Minister for Training, Skills and International Education.

Twenty-one cities are represented in Cities for the Future. The case studies outline principles-based and collaborative approaches to critical issues – effective practical ways to implement the Ten Principles of the Global Compact in the urban environment – which improve the lives of citizens and contribute to the development of equitable, sustainable, just cities. The publication offers timely models and advice to city decision makers.
