(Berlin, 15 March 2013) - The 4th Local Networks Exchange Programme concluded today in Berlin. Co-organized by the UN Global Compact and the Global Compact Network Germany, the five-day forum was attended by contact persons representing the Local Networks of France, Croatia, Uganda, Chile and Argentina.

The Exchange Programme seeks to foster collaboration among Local Networks by providing an opportunity to share experiences and identify best practices across regional boundaries. Contact persons from various networks meet with the goal of developing an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities associated with Local Network operation.

During the 4th Exchange Programme, contact persons participated in practical working sessions related to network governance structure; general network activities; integrity measures; and collective action and policy dialogue. Additional topics covered include tools and trainings for developing Communications on Progress (COP) reports, and future plans for activities and growth.

Participants also met with the Steering Committee of the German Local Network and took part in its German General Assembly, with several sessions dedicated to the post-2015 development agenda, labour rights and COP training.

In over 100 countries, Global Compact Local Networks serve an essential role in rooting the Global Compact’s issue platforms and campaigns within different national, cultural and language contexts, and providing an important base for companies to convene and act on sustainability issues at the ground level.
