G7 Leaders Call on Companies to Implement the Women's Empowerment Principles

(Krün, 08 June 2015) – In a Declaration issued at the conclusion of the 2015 G7 Summit, the heads of state and governments of the Group of Seven (G7) stated support for the Women's Empowerment Principles and called on companies worldwide to integrate them into their activities.
The Group of Seven (G7) comprises seven leading industrialised nations: the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Japan, Canada and Germany. The summits give the heads of state and government the opportunity to discuss issues that are of global importance. Women's economic empowerment was a key topic discussed at the 2015 Summit.
The Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) – a joint initiative of the UN Global Compact and UN Women – offers guidance to business on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community. To date, nearly 1,000 business leaders from around the world have signed a CEO Statement of Support for the WEPs.
