(Berlin, 14 October 2015) – On the heels of the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September and ahead of what is expected to be a new global climate agreement in Paris, Global Compact +15 Europe brought together more than 20 Global Compact Local Networks to discuss the future of corporate sustainability and of the UN Global Compact in Europe.

Hosted by Global Compact Network Germany, the two-day event was attended by more than 500 participants from business, Government, civil society, business associations and other stakeholders who interacted on a variety of topics, including the role of companies in sustainable development, compliance and due diligence, reporting and the EU directive, anti-corruption, women’s empowerment, climate, business for the rule of law, the UN Global Compact Board Programme and the future of corporate sustainability.

Sir Mark Moody-Stewart, Chairman of the Foundation for the Global Compact opened the conference reflecting on the history of the UN Global Compact over the last 15 years. Lise Kingo, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, elaborated on her ambitions for the future of the corporate sustainability movement: “My dream is that one day sustainability is not an appendix anymore. We need more companies to transform their business models, set ambitious sustainability goals that drive performance, and then measure and report their outcomes.”

At a high-level panel on 14 October, Alliance for Integrity -- a business-driven multi-stakeholder initiative which aims to prevent corruption in the economic system – was officially launched. To date, the initiative is active in Brazil, Ghana, India and the respective regions.
