Czech Government Calls on Companies to Join UN Global Compact

(Prague, 15 December 2014) – On 15 December 2014, the Association of Social Responsibility – a non-profit organization which connects and represents the interests of socially responsible entities in the Czech Republic – and the Quality Council of the Czech Republic – an advisory body of the Czech Government – signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and coordinate the integration of corporate sustainability and sustainable development in the country, and to establish a Global Compact Network Czech Republic.
A total of nine business and non-business organizations from the Czech Republic have already signed onto the Global Compact, with several more positioned to join in the coming year.
This collaboration follows approval by the Government of the Czech Republic in April 2014 of a National Action Plan for Corporate Social Responsibility in the Czech Republic that encourages Czech companies and organizations to join the Global Compact and supports the establishment of a Local Network in the country.
The National Action Plan was developed and adopted in response to the renewed EU strategy for CSR 2011-2014 under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade – in collaboration with the Quality Council and other stakeholders – to contribute to the development of the concept of corporate social responsibility in the Czech Republic and its positive impact on society, economic development and competitiveness. An updated version of the National Action Plan will be submitted to the Czech Government by the end of 2015.
