(Warsaw, 12 June) – Global Compact Network Poland recently organized a meeting on the efforts that different stakeholders have taken to counter the shadow economy plaguing the country’s oil sector. The network organized the event in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the Polish Oil Industry and Trade Organization, bringing together business leaders and Government representatives and experts.


Global Compact Network Poland brought together business leaders and Government representatives and experts to discuss efforts to counter the shadow economy plaguing the country’s oil sector.

Upon the opening of the meeting, Network Poland and the Ministry of Finance signed a Memorandum of Understanding, covering support and advisory assistance in the areas of anti-corruption and the sustainable development of the regional economy. The collaboration will bring together the knowledge and experiences of both public- and private-sector actors.

As part of the event, Network Poland and partners launched a new report entitled Countering Shadow Economy in Poland – Oil Sector. The report discusses actions taken to fight the shadow economy and provides an assessment on the oil sector after recent regulatory changes.

“These are joint efforts,” said  Secretary of State of the Ministry of Finance Mr. Marian Banaś attending the event, “the tax loophole decreased from 26 per cent to 14 per cent – this is a great success.”

The event was also attended by the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Finance, Piotr Walczak and the Head of the National Tax Administration.
 


Global Compact Network Poland and partners launched a new report entitled
Countering Shadow Economy in Poland – Oil Sector.

Through the event, Network Poland aimed to explore the progress made in working towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a principles-based approach, especially with regard to anti-corruption, which is part of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact.
