New York, United States of America
(New York, 28 January 2013) – The UN Global Compact and the International Bar Association, with the support of LexisNexis, have launched the anti-corruption module of the video manual series, “Lawyers as Leaders: The Essential Role of Legal Counsel in the Corporate Sustainability Agenda”.
Corruption is a major obstacle to achieving sustainable development and places considerable impact on the private sector. Corporate anti-corruption policies and activities are crucial for risk and reputation management, to ensure ethical and good business practices, and to prevent the distortion of competition within markets.
The anti-corruption module highlights the significant role that the private sector, supported by corporate counsel, can play in the fight against corruption. The video manual will be used for advocacy, training and continuing education purposes, and features the following experts:
- Yury Fedotov, Executive Director, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime;
- John F. Sherman III, General Counsel, former Co-Chair, International Bar Association CSR Committee;
- Huguette Labelle, Chair, Transparency International;
- Peter Solmssen, Member of the Managing Board and General Counsel, Siemens AG; and
- Kenneth Thompson, General Counsel – Intellectual Property, Privacy and Governance, Reed Elsevier and Co-Chair, International Bar Association CSR Committee.
The “Lawyers as Leaders” initiative emphasizes the critical role of corporate counsel in designing and managing corporate responsibility policies and practices. The initiative is directed primarily at corporate counsel, but holds value for anyone interested in the intersection between business, law and corporate sustainability. The complete series will consist of four separate modules on human rights, anti-corruption, labour and the environment. The human rights module is already available online, and the labour and environment modules will be launched over the coming months.
Lawyers as Leaders - Anti-Corruption is now available online:
